Citizens Launch E-mail Blitz and Picket Protesting Tax Funding for Planned Parenthood

Did you know that if you live in St Lucie County that your tax dollars are going to fund Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider? What’s more, most of the programs funded teach Planned Parenthood’s version of safe sex. As you may know, Planned Parenthood views sex as a right of passage for all teenagers and believes that teens are the only ones who know when they are ready to have sex. This month, we are asking you to take two steps to defund Planned Parenthood in our community.

  • “Planned Parenthood is a morally corruptible organization with a money trail I do not want my tax dollars going to.”
  • “Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the United States and the organization has been linked to many controversial activities including covering up statutory rape, and child sex trafficking. I appreciate most of the programs that the CSC funds. However, as a St. Lucie County taxpayer, I  am strongly opposed to your giving money to Planned Parenthood.”

Will You Stand4LIFE Tomorrow, Silent Prayer at Abortion Clinic

There are some amazing things happening in Florida! Did you know that state legislators are presenting in this legislative session an unprecedented number of pro-life bills? We can’t mention any names, but more legislators and officials in Florida are wearing life bands than anywhere else in the United States (About 21 of them). Momentum is building and the stakes could not be higher!  Which is why we are excited to call the saints to action once again with our 2nd Stand4LIFE this year on Saturday, May 7th from 10am-12noon at the abortion chamber in Fort Pierce (a Woman’s World Medical Center on the corner of 12th and Delaware).

Just to recap, last year, 1,800 people stood shoulder to shoulder in front of every abortion center in Florida for the first ever Stand4LIFE event; 1,600 were first-time life activists. Many Christian denominations came together to pray for the ending of abortion in our day.  It was amazing! Pastors brought their churches, and God spoke. Out of that one-day stand, eight babies were saved across Florida, and the church of Florida began to find her voice. New Bound4LIFE chapters were launched, and the pro-life movement in all her many parts was strengthened.

Not only do we expect 10,000 to stand across Florida this year, but we just got news the Rio Grande Valley will join us at every abortion mill in South Texas!  Maybe you want to stand with us, and even better, maybe you feel the Lord leading you to rally your church or community. God’s heart burns with justice, and so ours does too. We pray God would raise you up in this hour to influence your entire region. Why not? If not now, when? If not you, who?

Thank you for your time and all you do to uphold and defend the precious value of LIFE!

David and Jackie Lugo

Time: 7:30 – 8:30 a.m.

One hundred protesters with signs will line St Lucie West Blvd, Peacock Boulevard, and University Avenue, in St. Lucie West, as members of the St. Lucie Children’s Service Council arrive for the regularly scheduled April 14 meeting.  Individuals from throughout the county are protesting the $500,000 tax money the Council is giving Planned Parenthood each year for programs that can be provided by other county organizations.

Only 9 of 67 counties in Florida have Children’s Service Councils. It is troublesome to many of us that this council is a separate taxing entity – which we look at as taxation without representation. None of the members of the CSC are elected – all appointed. So we have little recourse as to the makeup of the council and they can pretty much do as they please, without accountability.

STOP Funding Planned Parenthood!

Photo from March protest – we will have new photos for the April protest as many more people  have committed to coming.

Following the protest, citizen taxpayers will speak at the council meeting, stressing fiscal responsibility during this time of budget deficits. There is also a concern about duplication of services, since these programs can be provided by other local public and private agencies which do not promote exploitation of minors, sex trafficking, and abortion.

The matter has heated up locally, as undercover videos of Planned Parenthood were made public on national television, which showed Planned Parenthood’s willingness to aid and abet the sexual exploitation of minors. During a four-year investigation in ten different states Planned Parenthood was found to intentionally misrepresent and ignore reporting laws for sexual abuse. Planned Parenthood is supposedly a non-profit organization, yet in their last annual report they showed $63 million in profits.

For several years local citizens have appeared at the September St. Lucie Children’s Service Council budget meeting to protest the huge allocation of tax money to Planned Parenthood, but have had no success, as each year Planned Parenthood receives $500,000. The citizen group plans to thoroughly check all history, facts and statistics from both Planned Parenthood and the Children’s Service Council, as the battle is taken directly to the streets and to the tax payers.

The movement is gaining momentum. We have protested at the St. Lucie school board meeting two weeks ago and nine of us spoke at the School Board meeting last week. Both Kathryn Hensley (school board) and Paula Lewis (County Commissioner) have voted to give  Planned Parenthood over $3 million the past few years. Both are up for reelection in 2012.

This is a chance to show up at the School Board Meeting and let them know that we are keeping tabs on School Board policy/policymakers.  Just look at some of the current issues:

  2. School Board Member Kathryn Hensley and Superintendent Lannon continue to sit on the   Children’s Services Council Taxing Authority and voted to give $500,000 in tax dollars to Planned  Parenthood
  3. The School Board continues to resist to a new proposed Charter High School (the College Prep. Academy of the TC) thereby limiting parental choice.

Feel free to speak during public forum as well.  See you there.
